Woo! Been awhile since I made a personal blog, but yesterday I came back from my first ever 'real' staffing event! By that I mean I was officially a part of the Console and PC Gaming Room at Animation On Display, a animation and video game's convention that was held in Millbare, CA. Normally it's hosted in JapanTown in San Francisco, but the convention was starting to grow bigger, and it needed a better place. No longer was it right in the middle of San Francisco and instead moved down south, a few cities away, but to me it made the convention alot more like...well, a convention, instead of a faire or even that toke place in JapanTown.
It does loses it's charms though, it being taken place in JapanTown made for great shopping for all around and a fun place to go to, but now AOD honestly looks alot more like a real convention now. Well, by real I mean like other conventions I've gone to, it's always been a great event! But now it does look like a convention that...well, looks like others. I don't know if that's a good thing or not right now, so we'll just have to see how the years goes by.
But anyways, as I was saying this was the first year I was officially a part of the staff. I've helped out for a few years, usually with taking things down, but to finally wear a badge that says my name on it was just amazing. Heck, I've even hosted a tournament with two friends, and I even had a panel room at the end of the tournament!
What tournament you ask? Well, it's called the Gamer's Gauntlet, and it's about playing a bunch of games alot of people sometimes don't expect it to be run as a tournament. It's 5 games, each one different from the other, and the way you win is to beat all the other opponents in each of those games until you are the champion of weird games everywhere! Or, well, at least the convention. It's a different type of tournament that I always enjoy seeing, as it allows for weird games to pop up or bad games to suddenly become, if I can quote the Best Friends, the Hypest Tournament!
The games were as follows, and the first game instantly shows that it's going to be a weird tournament indeed: Tekken Bowling, followed by Power Stone 2, then Kirby's SNES mini-game, which is followed by 2 mystery games, which was held in a panel room:
Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game: Real Battle on Film! Yes, the very famous fighting game that got turned into a movie turned into a game became our semi-finals, and running it like a legit tournament at that point really was quite the funs. We even had one of the challengers rent out an arcade stick for this! Too bad the final game wasn't this game at all, and we ended on...
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG. Or, for most people, Sonic 2006.
Yeaaaah. That was a fun one also, more so when I had completely forgotten that the next panel was to be run by Aaron Webber, who was going to do the History of Sonic. So...again..yeaaaaah. But it was hype! I never expected Silver to beat Shadow in a race, but it was a true come from behind victory, and it was from the person who rented out the arcade stick too! So, once again, congrats to you guys for going through all of that (more so for going through the start of the tournament which was the most confusing thing ever and I bet turned alot of people off at the start. Sorry again...!)
Overall, it was a mostly enjoyable convention. Hope next year it goes well too, and the convention continues to grow! And grow! TO AOD 2015!
