I recently read Ben-To Zero, as on my way back to work I was enjoying some Ben-to music and remembered: Hey! I really liked that show! And I remember having this manga I wanted to read that is actually set in the same world, so, having just finished it, just wanted to put some of my thoughts on it.
First off, I had watched the anime about a year, two years ago, and very much enjoyed it. There was so much passion to what they were doing...and there was a beauty to it. I wish I could explain it, but they explain it well in the anime itself. There is excellent reasoning on the subject matter, which is: Fight for Half-Price Bento!
Now, I know that sounds weird, but there is alot of amazing feelings to it when you actually watch it. Normally half-price bento is not something you actually want, but when you are put in a situation where you have to fight for it, earning a chance to eat what in this world a delicious bento for half the price..it's just a raw emotion, and a feeling you get getting that goal. It's something that it's worth getting too, because it will fill your stomach and you'll have the actual taste of victory with it too.
The main character of the manga, later becomes one of the main leaders in the anime, and it's set up VERY well in both the anime and the manga why they do this, and the passion they feel for it. It's actually reminding me to keep going with my passion too, as there is a point in the manga where the character is asked: Why are you doing this? We get the sense that the main character likes the other character, however one of them points out that if your fighting for this character, your missing the goal.
It's VERY much like a reminder of the ending to Scott Pilgrim vs The World, in that the flaming sword of love is important, but not as much as the burning sword of self respect, which as awesome as love for each other is, it's hard to use that as a strength if the other side can flip it on it's head in just a moment. What you need is to find that inner passion, that you want over anything else. That thing that's missing in your life..and fill it up. And it'll take some time to find it too.
Heh, one of the main things about Bento is that the main characters join a club eventually, or that is the focus of one of the series. I think clubs are a great way to find your passion, as long as it's something you actually want to do and enjoy and not because it seems like a good way to waste time. Finding like minded people helps alot, and it keeps you focus on what you want to do, as they will be the ones that will tell you what you TRULY need, unlike people who would have no idea on the subject and try to give advice. Though not to say you should avoid them! They have their own thoughts on subjects too that is often times completely different that will also help you find the way.
Another thing I really, REALLY enjoy about Bento is that, in the end, it's still just a minor thing in life. It's not about saving the world, or something super, majority important too. It's still a fun thing to do, with like minded people, even if it's going to hurt alittle bit...but then, if it doesn't make you sweat, it just makes it abit boring huh? Even the smallest thing in your mind, can mean something a whole lot more to other people.
Haa...I'm rambling again. Anyways, Ben-to, both the anime and the manga version, is about life, and finding enjoyment in life. So enjoy life!
